The Country of Superlatives: 5 places you need to visit in the United Arab Emirates

What does superlative mean and why did I use it to describe the United Arab Emirates? To put it simply, UAE embodies the word superlative. It has the world's tallEST building, it has one of the largEST indoor aquariums, it has the largEST garden in a dessert laden country, it has three of the world's largEST manmade islands, and one of the largest indoor skis! You need to see the world's biggEST and MOST expensive fountain show. Not to mention having the world's fastest roller coaster in it's capital city of Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates holds the record for a country who has the most.

1. The bluest of them all.

Dubai Aquarium, Foursquare.com

Having an aquarium or an oceanarium is quite normal. You have those everywhere, like the Sea World in the United States, the SEA Aquarium in Singapore, the Manila Ocean Park in the Philippines.

But having an aquarium indoors, inside one of the biggest malls in the world is something else. We all know how hot the temperature can be in the middle east, which is why it's important for this aquarium to be indoors. And imagine the whole aquarium spanning all floors of the mall, from ground floor up. Truly spectacular.

2. The coldest of them all.

Ski Dubai, Foursquare.com

Indoor skis are not something new in European countries such as Germany or in Japan. These countries have winter and perhaps when people miss snow or when the need to ski arises, they conveniently have an indoor ski.

But in the middle east where the terrain is mostly desert? Where would you begin to fathom that they have an indoor ski? And the most posh and lavish at that?

But yes, they indeed have an indoor ski and it's located in the Mall of the Emirates which is connected to two hotels, Sheraton and Kempinski.

Oh, and they have penguins.

3. The fastest of them all.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Foursquare.com

Formula Rossa, located in Ferrari World in the UAE, is the fastest roller coaster in the world. How fast? Try having an acceleration of 240km/h in under 5 seconds. That's how it would probably feel.

4. The greenest of them all.

Dubai Miracle Garden, from author's photos

Deserts have one focal point, aside from camels, and those are the oasis that are scattered on it's surface. It's a miracle for a desert country to have water, thanks to desalination, but it's another thing to have a full blown garden. Which is probably why it's called the miracle garden.

5. The tallest of them all.

Burj Khalifa, Foursquare.com

Well, I don't know about you, but I'd certainly want to feel how it is like to be 828 meters from the ground up. Imagine the view.

Conclusion

It's not a cheap tourist destination, trust me, I've been there, but to be in these landmarks that are known around the world is priceless. It's not every day that you can say, "Hey, I've been to the tallest building in the world."
