1. Moules-frites / Mosselen-friet

Usually, this dish is called "Mussels from Brussels", but it is common for the other regions of country as well. The traditional recipe usually includes white wine, shallots, parsley and butter. Sometimes chefs experiment and instead of wine, make it even with a Belgian beer, so it becomes even more local! Mussels are usually served in a large steaming pot of savory broth with a side frires and homemade mayonnaise.

2. Frites / Frieten

It may be a surprising fact by many people, but originally, fries are not French, as we've all used to believe and call it. They were invented in Belgium, so of course, here you will find them literally everywhere - in bars, restaurants, on the streets and roads... And of course, Belgians know how to make them taste good! 4. Gaufre / Wafel

One of the most well known foods of Belgium is its famous Belgian waffles. In fact, you will find them everywhere in the country, especially in Brussels, where the waffle shops are placed behind each corner. Many of them will offer you waffles with ice-cream, fruits, chocolate, etc. However, the original Belgian waffles should be served without any kind of toppings, all of these decorations are made up in order to attract tourists.

5. Chocolate

Another food symbol of the country that you can’t miss is chocolate. And it is considered to be one of the best in the world! A lot of chocolate shops you will find in Brussels, especially on the streets going down from the central square.
