5 things to do in Brasov, Romania if you only have 1 day

Brasov, home to the very well known tale of Dracula, is a charming city. It boasts of an old European time and you will feel like you're a maiden trying to buy milk from a nearby grocer. Everything in Brasov is quaint and charming, and it doesn't have the feel of a big city such as Bucharest. But you can find your next door brands such as Nike and Adidas, and it even has a KFC in the middle of the plaza. So if you want to feel the old European vibe but not miss the comforts of a modern city, visit Brasov. And if you only have one day to spare, it's more than enough. Just wish there's no traffic on the way to Dracula's castle.

1. Take a selfie with the BRASOV sign

You know that infamous HOLLYWOOD sign in California? Well, BRASOV has it's own version! Make sure you have a great camera as its quite difficult to take a photo with it.

2. Up, up, and away

Vârful Tâmpa, Foursquare.com

Brasov is nestled in Romania's majestic Carpathian mountains, so its no surprise if they have a cable car that leads all the way up to a great view of the whole city.

It will take your breath away.

3. Take me to church

Biserica Neagră, Foursquare.com

It's historical value is really important, but if you just like to go and visit churches, then you shouldn't miss the biserica neagra or the Black Church.

You aren't allowed to take photos inside, though.

4. Bike your way into Old Town

Piața Sfatului, Foursquare.com

The Old Town in Brasov is the best place in this city. You have the cobble stoned path, you have a plaza with a fountain and very interesting buildings surrounding it. You have cafes, restaurants, bookstores, antique shops, retail stores, and the best part of it? You can rent a bike and venture off to see the city or just go around the plaza.

5. Bran's Castle

Castelul Bran, Foursquare.com

Who has not heard of Dracula and the legend behind it? Well, if you're a huge vampire fan such as myself, then you'd enjoy heading towards Bran's Castle. It was said to be one of the places where Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula lived. Just be wary that this place can get really crowded at times so its best to go on a weekday.

Also, Bran's Castle is a few minutes drive out of the Brasov city centre. There are buses that go directly to the castle or you can take a cab as well.

Castelul Bran
Address:
Str. G-ral Traian Moșoiu nr. 24, 507025 Bran, Romania

Conclusion

The trick to enjoying these places within one day is to set a specific time for each place. Try to budget the time according to your preferences. For example, if you're a history buff, you can spend as much as two hours in Bran's Castle. But if you're more of an outdoor kind of person then I suggest spend at least an hour's bike ride within the city and another hour to enjoy the view from Tampa. Or you can mix and match, it's up to you!
