Singapore itself is packed with things to do. You can't even fathom the amount of train hopping and sightseeing that you need to get ticked off the list to be able to maximize your stay. After all, Singapore is not the cheapest place in Asia to visit so you have to be loaded when you get here.

Some people choose to skip going to Sentosa Island. They'd rather do the museum trail, visit the malls, go to the night safari, or visit China town and Little India. For them, Sentosa island is for teens and kids who want to go inside the Universal Studios, or for the gamblers with money and go to Resorts World. But there's more to Sentosa than meets the eye. And here the 5 reasons why you should not skip it.

1. Adventure

There are five different kinds of adventures that you can do in Sentosa Island. If you're cringing at the word "adventure" then think of Sentosa as a beginner's paradise.

MegaZip: A zipline that passes through some trees and above the water, it's not really that scary. They also have a mini bunjee jump - if you want more adrenaline rush.

Wave House: if you don't have waves, create them! And if you would like to harness your surfing abilities, then this is the place to be.

Luge and Skyride: possibly the most fun in all of the adventure activities. You will go up the ramp via a cable car and when you're up, you will ride the luge in a sort of race match all the way down.

iFly: it's the world's largest skydiving wind tunnel. And to quote their infamous tagline, "Experience the thrill of skydiving without any of the danger." If you want to experience how it feels to be pushed against air in a wind tunnel and float for a couple of seconds, then this is worth a try.

Fancy of these adventures? Who knew you can do all of them in Sentosa Island!

I admit, Singapore is not really the go-to place for beaches and sunbathing. Some of the Singaporeans will just hop on to the next bus to Malaysia or probably drive there and enjoy the sea over that side. But it helps to know that there are beach activities that you can do whilst your short stay in Sentosa Island. Like beach volleyball, for example. Or to simply sunbathe.

There are a couple of beaches that you can visit. Either go to Tanjong Beach, Palawan Beach or Siloso Beach.

3. Nightlife

Imagine Mexico, Asian style. This is as close as you can get to a beach party nightlife in Sentosa, or the whole of Singapore for that matter. Just beware of the hefty price tags, but for a Jacuzzi and pool while watching the sunset and enjoying cocktails, who wouldn't want to dish out some cash?

4. Under the sea

There are many aquatic adventures to do in Sentosa island. First off, they have the SEA aquarium. Then you can watch a dolphin show, and visit some museums related to the sea. For example, they have the maritime experiential museum and the port of lost wonder.

You will definitely not have all the time in the world to fit the under the sea adventure in one day.

5. Bring out the kid in you

Amusement parks are not just for children, they are also to bring out the kid in you. Stroll along the paths of Shrek's realm, of try the heart breaking rides and you'd be happy to release all the tension when you scream. Make sure you spare one whole day here to make it worth your money.

Try to go on a weekday though, as there are lines in most rides.
