If you live and work in Manila, you'd know why an hour's massage or a relaxing 20 minutes in a Jacuzzi is precious. It's not just the traffic, which is almost reaching the same height as that of Jakarta (believe me, I lived in central Jakarta for a year), its the stress of the working atmosphere. It's a dog-eat-dog world out here, which is why Manilenyos love to hit the massage areas.
But not all have the budget to spend at least $20. So these massage joints will offer an hour's relaxation for less than $10!
1. Nuat Thai
You're in luck because you can find Nuat Thai anywhere in Manila! And because all of their therapists are trained in one facility in Cebu, there is a 90% chance that the quality of massage that you will get in one branch is the same as the other. I am speaking from my own experience as I have gone to at least three branches. My favorite one is the one in Maginhawa, Quezon City.
Just prepare to be on a low bed or mattress, as this is what a traditional Thai massage set-up should be. If you have difficulties standing from the ground up, just enjoy a really great foot reflexology.
Rates: P300 and up ($7); if you come on a weekday and in the dead hours of business, like 12 noon til 4pm, you can even enjoy a discounted rate. Though not all branches offer this.
Opening Hours: Depends on the branch, some are even open 24 hours, but generally, they open from 12 noon til 10pm.
- Nuat Thai
- 277 Tomas Morato (Sct Limbaga), Quezon City, Quezon City, Philippines
2. Heaven & Earth
The cheapest and probably the longest running massage center in Cubao, Quezon City. For only P99, if it's your first time, you will be able to enjoy an hour's massage. Unlike Nuat Thai, this can only be found in two areas in Quezon City. But you're in luck since Araneta Center Cubao is the easiest place to get to and locate. Both MRT and LRT stations have a Cubao drop - off and most cab drivers know this place. And the other location is around five minutes away from the first one.
Rates: P199 or $4.5 for an hour
Opening Hours: 3pm to 11pm
- Araneta Center
- Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) (at Aurora Boulevard), Quezon City, Quezon City, Philippines
3. Spa 168
It's new, but it's already making a name for itself. People living in Manila might think this spa is somehow related to the infamous 168 Mall in Divisoria, but we actually won't know as this number, 168, is considered a lucky combination for the Chinese. It's named like this because the location's building number is 168.
They have a sauna and they're located in the party area in Quezon City so it might be really great if you can go relax the next day after you went crazy.
Rates: P350 and up ($8) for one hour
Opening Hours: Call +6324149988 for more information
- Spa 168
- Tomas morato (Tomas morato), Quezon City, Quezon City, Philippines
4. Mont Albo Massage
Filipino Hilot. Yes, there's such a thing as a Filipino massage as there is such as thing as a Thai massage. The place is decorated like a traditional Filipino home, so if you want to do some historical learning at the same time, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Rates: P330 and up ($7) for an hour
Opening Hours: Everyday from
10:00 am - 12:00 am
- Mont Albo Massage Hut
- Unit 9, 5 Timog Cor. Panay, South Triangle, Quezon City, Quezon City, Philippines
5. Blossom Floral Spa
Nestled in a hip and happening place in Maginhawa, Quezon City, Blossom Floral Spa doesn't only offer massages, they also do manicure, pedicure, a sauna, body scrubs, etc.
Rates: P350 and up ($7); depends on which service you choose. Manicure and pedicure costs less, scrubs costs more.
